What you will learn
- Describe the awareness, consideration, conversion, and loyalty stages
- Match suitable channels and content to each funnel stage
- Choose a sensible metric to judge each stage
The marketing funnel describes how people move from not knowing a business to becoming customers. At the top is awareness, when people first notice the brand. Next comes consideration, where they compare options and look for reasons to trust. Then conversion, when they buy, book, or send an enquiry. After that come loyalty and referral, where happy customers return and recommend you.
Each stage needs different content. At awareness, short videos, social posts, and helpful blog articles work well. At consideration, people want detail: reviews, price lists, comparisons, and answers to common questions. At conversion, remove friction with a clear call to action, a simple form, or a WhatsApp button. Retargeting ads can remind people who visited but did not act.
Judge each stage by a metric that fits its job. Awareness campaigns are measured by reach and cost per thousand impressions, not by sales. Consideration is about clicks, engagement, and time on site. Conversion is measured in leads, sales, and cost per result. A common beginner mistake is to judge an awareness campaign by direct sales and switch it off too early.
