Engagement rate

Engagement rate is the share of people who interact with content, by liking, commenting, sharing, or saving, relative to reach or followers.

What Engagement rate means

It is calculated by dividing total engagements by reach, impressions, or follower count. Which base you choose changes the number, so compare like with like.

Comments, shares, and saves usually signal more interest than likes, and platforms weigh them more heavily when deciding what to show.

Example

A LinkedIn post reaches 8,000 people and gets 320 reactions, comments, and shares, an engagement rate of 4% by reach.

Why it matters

High engagement tells platforms your content is worth showing to more people, which lowers the cost of reaching them.
