Domain AuthorityDA

Domain Authority is a 1–100 score from the SEO tool Moz that predicts how well a site might rank, based mainly on its backlinks. Google does not use it.

What Domain Authority means

Similar scores include Ahrefs' Domain Rating and Semrush's Authority Score. Each tool calculates its own number from its own index of links.

These scores are useful for comparing sites and judging link opportunities, but they are third-party estimates, not part of Google's algorithm.

Example

When choosing where to pitch a guest article, an agency compares two blogs: one has a DA of 55 and relevant readers, the other a DA of 20 and no audience.

Why it matters

Treat authority scores as a rough guide. Chasing the number itself, rather than relevant links and real traffic, leads to bad decisions.
