Content pruning

Content pruning is improving, merging, or removing old and low-value pages so a site's overall quality rises and important pages stand out.

What Content pruning means

Pages with no traffic, no links, and outdated information are reviewed. Some are updated, some merged into stronger pages, and some removed with redirects.

Pruning is not about deleting for the sake of it. Pages that serve visitors, such as legal pages, stay.

Example

A blog merges twelve short, overlapping posts about Instagram tips into one updated guide and redirects the old URLs to it.

Why it matters

A smaller site of strong pages often outperforms a large site full of weak ones, especially after core updates.
