A domain name is the address people type to reach a website, such as parwazdigital.com. It is rented yearly from a registrar.
It has a name and an extension: .com, .pk, .com.pk, or a newer extension. In Pakistan, .pk domains are managed by PKNIC.
The domain and the hosting are separate. DNS records connect the domain to wherever the website is hosted.
Example
A business registers its brand as both .com and .pk and redirects one to the other, so both addresses reach the same site.
Why it matters
The domain is a long-term brand asset. It should always be registered in the business's own name and set to auto-renew.
