Cumulative Layout ShiftCLS

Cumulative Layout Shift measures how much content jumps around unexpectedly while a page loads. Good is a score of 0.1 or less.

What Cumulative Layout Shift means

Layout shifts happen when something loads late and pushes other content down: an image without set dimensions, a late banner, or a web font that changes text size.

Reserving space for images, ads, and embeds before they load is the main fix.

Example

A visitor goes to tap "Buy", a promotional banner loads above it, and they tap the wrong link. Giving the banner fixed space removes the shift.

Why it matters

Shifting pages are frustrating and cause mis-clicks, which hurts trust and conversions as well as the Core Web Vitals score.
