Caching

Caching stores copies of files or results so they can be served again quickly, instead of rebuilding or downloading them every time.

What Caching means

It happens at several levels: the browser cache on the visitor's device, CDN caches at the edge, and server-side caches for pages and database queries.

The hard part is invalidation: making sure updated content replaces old copies at the right time.

Example

A site's logo and styles are cached in the visitor's browser, so the second page they open loads almost instantly.

Why it matters

Good caching is one of the biggest speed wins available, and it reduces server load and hosting costs.
